Sharp Grossmont HOSPITAL Invasion Of Privacy
On March 29, 2019, KGTV reported that Sharp Grossmont Hospital secretly recorded videos of 1,800 patients using hidden cameras at the Women’s Health Center in El Cajon. These recordings took place between July 17, 2012 and June 30, 2013 inside the operating rooms located at 5555 Grossmont Center Dr. in El Cajon.
The hospital claims the videos were part of an investigation into whether an employee was stealing an anesthesia drug from drug carts in the operating rooms. The hospital installed motion activated cameras on drug carts in operating rooms in order to catch the alleged thief. These cameras captured patients undergoing hysterectomies, sterilizations, dilatation and curettage to resolve miscarriages, and other procedures. Sharp Grossmont Hospital failed to inform patients that they were being recorded, in violation of their right to privacy.
